“After qualifying, my journey with oncology initially started when I worked on a surgical ward in a local hospital. Many of the patients that were treated on the ward were also treated at The Royal Marsden. Patients spoke about the high-quality care they had received and spoke about the Marsden with such fondness, that I knew that it was where I wanted to work.

“I joined The Royal Marsden 13 years ago. I was recruited via The Royal Marsden School of nursing as part of the Diploma Rotation Programme. The course offered a supportive environment, allowing me to rotate throughout three departments, over an 18-month period, underpinned with study days allowing me to develop my academic base within cancer nursing. One of my placements during this time was within the haematology ward.

“I am now an Advanced Nurse Practitioner within the haematology department, where I work on a part-time basis. Once again, The Royal Marsden School has facilitated my career, allowing me to study stand-alone modules at level 7. This allowed me to gain the relevant competencies for my role and I completed the Clinical Assessment and Prescribing modules.

I had such a positive experience within the School, that I have transferred these stand-alone modules and I am currently studying on the Advanced Nursing Practice Masters. The staff at the School have an excellent knowledge base and the standard of the courses, lecturers and support staff, make it a pleasure to study there.”
