Cathy Wilson, Head of School, welcomed a diverse audience to the event which looked at the future of healthcare delivery and how this will be influenced by the introduction of new roles such as Nurse Associates. The key note speech was delivered by Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, Director of Nursing and Deputy Director of Education and Qualify for Health Education England.

She stressed that the emergence of new roles gave the NHS the opportunity to upskill an existing workforce while also appealing to new potential employees. The hope is that the incentives of career development opportunities will make more people see nursing as a career for life.

Liz Bishop, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Executive of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust showcased how the radiography service has embraced the development of its staff to play a more active role in the radiotherapy planning process and discussed the benefits to the department and the patients.

Jon Knox shared his experiences of working as a Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery Advanced Nurse Practitioner at The Royal Marsden, and we also heard from Alistair Ritchie, who is currently training to be an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner. Both highlighted the importance of collaborative working in their new roles and also the career progression they have both achieved.
