I completed my training at Guy’s and St Thomas’s in 1992. I was lucky enough to get a job on the medical oncology ward at Guys where I stayed until 1996. During my time at Guys a gained a broad oncological experience. I moved to the Marsden in 1996 and worked as a research nurse for the GI and Lymphoma Team. My interests were largely related to SACTs and advances in science and treatment and I feel particularly strongly about exploring ways in which we can improve the patients’’ experience of care. I completed my MSc in Clinical Oncology in 2004.In the early 2000’s I was lucky enough to represent the UK as a nurse in the development of the European oncology Nursing Society’s TARGET Training programme which aimed to train staff to further their knowledge in relation to targeted therapies. I joined the Royal Marsden School in April 2005 as a Lecturer Practitioner. I was the Level 7. Programme Leader when the School’s courses were validated by Saint Georges University of London until 2017 when I semi-retired. My areas of interest continue to involve scientific advances in cancer care and ways in which we can improve the patients’ experience of care throughout their pathway. I feel very passionately about education and research in cancer care. I very strongly believe in the importance of educating tomorrow’s leaders in cancer care and in advancing change within clinical practice. Currently I work 2 days a week having semi-retired in 2017 and returned to the Royal Marsden School in 2018.
In 2020 during the lockdown with the support of the clinical team I designed and developed online principles of the Breast Cancer Care module for Healthcare Professionals. In 2021 I designed and developed, with the support of the clinical team, and delivered the Principles of Gynaecological Cancer Care module which was at that time the only online gynaecological cancer care module. I am firmly committed to delivering online learning which, I believe, enables healthcare professionals who cannot attend face-to-face modules, the opportunity to further develop their cancer education.
