Course summary

This unique programme has been specifically developed to support a wider Specialist Royal Marsden Cancer Leadership Programme. Therefore, the learning experiences and knowledge delivered on this programme will be tailored to the specific needs of the practitioners and organisation.
This module has been developed specifically for Band 7 and 8a staff working within leadership/management roles at the Trust. The programme will enable participants to develop effective and consistent leadership and facilitation behaviours, ensuring they are able to get the best from their teams to consistently deliver excellent cancer care. The programme will also explore new ways of working, managing complexity and leading for change.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module you should be able to demonstrate achievement of the following learning outcomes:

  1. Critically appraise and synthesise the ability of the courageous and compassionate clinical leader role to influence and improve the quality of person-centred care.
  2. Critically appraise the skills and knowledge required to create and support an effective workplace culture.
  3. Demonstrate greater understanding of the clinical leader role, responsibilities, and key working relationships.
  4. Develop key facilitation and communication skills and consider how these may be applied to enhance person-centred care in clinical practice.
  5. To identify practice areas, which may benefit from change and utilise appropriate tools and strategies to effectively manage complex change.

Who is it for?

Clinical Practitioners working at Band 7 or 8a. Previous study at level 7 is desirable or evidence to study at level 7 may be accepted.

Please note, this course is only open to clinicians working at The Royal Marsden.

Assessment

Participants are then required to develop a single plan-do-study-act (PDSA) cycle of the proposed change, as well as to deliver a 15-minute presentation.
