The Royal Marsden School

Graduation Ceremony

Tuesday 26 November 2019

Graduation is always a special day for students at the Royal Marsden School. In November 2019 there were 41 students graduating with a variety of awards including Masters, Bachelor of Science and Foundation Degree awards.

We are here to congratulate them and celebrate their achievements. We know how difficult it is to balance clinical work, studying and a personal life, which makes this even more special.  The support and encouragement that student’s families and friends provide can often be the rock upon which their success is built. So, we thank each and every one of them.

Patient care is the main reason why we are all here and putting our best efforts to constantly improve it. One of the greatest and most powerful gifts is to have patients to come in and share their own experiences with our students.

We were delighted this year for Deborah James to be awarded, the Degree of Doctor of Civil Law, honoris causa, by our academic partner University of East Anglia.  Deborah is well known for her BBC podcast “You Me and the Big C” and often provides invaluable insights into the patient journey, speaking on many different courses at The Royal Marsden School.

It’s important to be a life-long learner, to actually fall in love with the idea that you never stop learning. And to recognise the importance of always asking questions

The majority of our student’s start their academic journey with a single module. As their hard work pays off, their confidence and belief grows. Many progress to take further modules and ultimately on to longer programmes.

The School’s academic and support staff provide help and assist every step of the way.  The award winning David Adams Library and The Royal Marsden Hospital’s Clinical Staff bring expertise and cutting edge knowledge to the teaching.

Since 2002, more than 600 students have graduated from the School, joining an elite group of alumni. Many of them are today’s leaders and have maintained their relationship with the Royal Marsden Hospital and the School.
