Course summary

Each year in the UK there are approximately 21,800 new cases of the most common gynaecological cancers (cervical, ovarian, uterine and vulva) diagnosed. Survival rates for gynaecological cancers vary significantly. For cervical cancer, 52% will survive for 10 years or more. For ovarian cancer, the 10-year survival rate is 35%. For uterine cancer, the 10-year survival is 72% whilst for vulva cancer, it is 67% (Cancer Research UK, 2022).

The purpose of the module is to provide learners with an opportunity to develop their knowledge of the treatment pathways and experiences of individuals affected by a gynaecological cancer diagnosis. The overriding aim is to provide a learning environment in which learners can critically reflect on the care provided and explore key issues, which impact the people affected by gynaecological cancers.

The quality of the speakers was excellent, particularly the surgeons
