Course summary

Effective communication is recognised as the cornerstone of effective health care (NHS Long Term Plan 2019). This Advanced Communication Skills Training (ACST) is a two-day course for all senior health and social care professionals (band 6 and above), who want to practice and enhance their communication skills. With all our courses being run by trained facilitators, who are also experienced health care professionals, the two-day advanced communication skills training provides experiential learning that utilises, role-play, and an interactive workshops environment.
In small groups (classes are limited to10), learners recreate challenging situations they experience at work, with actors playing different roles such as a patient, family member, or colleague. These may include:
•    Talking to an upset or angry patient or their family
•    Delivering significant news
•    Performance managing colleagues
•    Handling complaints
•    Getting your point across in a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
Each role-play is filmed, and used to provide the learner with constructive feedback within a safe and supportive environment, facilitating the development of effective communication skills (Moore, 2018)

This was a brilliant communications course. I think it will make a huge difference to how I communicate with patients and their families.
